Ife Adeyemi
I don’t hear the crowd. I hear the gap.
Saltmarsh’s right winger on the half-second that decides most of his Saturdays.
Ife Adeyemi measures his game in steps. Not sprints, not minutes: steps. “The first three are everything,” he says. “After that, it’s just running.”
He grew up on the cages behind the flats in Peckham, where the walls were the touchline and every gap closed faster than it opened. He still plays like the wall is there. Short, sharp, gone.
Under the lights at Saltmarsh he wears the Breakaway in Night, low-cut with the laces pulled hard. “I want to feel the floor,” he says. “If I can’t feel it, I’m not going anywhere.”
His best moments come late. Defenders tire, the space opens up, and the noise drops away to something he can hear through. “Seventy-five minutes in, you can hear the gap open. Then it’s just me and the ball and whoever’s chasing.”
